AI workflow automation tools for non-developers
Last verified 2026-10-10Paid placement never changes our picks.
Short answer
As of October 2026, start with Zapier if your apps need ready-made connectors and simple trigger-action steps, Make if you want visual multi-step logic on a free plan, and Microsoft Power Automate if your work runs on Microsoft 365. The main catch: each tool bills in different units (tasks, credits or executions), so estimate monthly volume before comparing prices.

How to choose
- If you want ready-made connectors for many apps and the simplest start → Zapier (free plan with 100 tasks a month and two-step Zaps; check whether listed paid prices are monthly or yearly).
- If you need branching, multi-step scenarios on a small budget → Make (free plan with 1,000 credits a month and 2 active scenarios; credit counting takes some learning).
- If your organization runs on Microsoft 365 → Microsoft Power Automate ($15 per user a month on a yearly term after a 30-day trial; connects to Teams, Excel and SharePoint).
- If you want AI agents working across team tools rather than fixed flows → Gumloop ($37 a month after a 14-day trial; no permanent free plan) and expect less predictable credit use.
- If you can accept technical setup to save at high volume or keep data on your own server → n8n (free self-hosted Community Edition; cloud plans are priced in euros per execution).

Where sources disagree
- Relay.app shut down: Relay.app, still recommended in many 2026 lists for its human-approval steps, announced it shut down in September 2026 and deleted all accounts and workflows. It is no longer an option.
- Billing units are not comparable: Zapier counts tasks, Make and Gumloop count credits, and n8n counts executions, so any claim that one is cheapest depends on your workload. Zapier and Make pages also do not label whether listed prices are monthly or yearly.
- Agents versus workflow builders: Lindy has moved from an agent builder to a Slack-based AI teammate. Sources disagree on whether agent tools belong in workflow automation at all.
- How technical n8n and Power Automate are: Third-party guides rate n8n and Power Automate as more technical, while the vendors market them as accessible. We did not test usability.
