Hedra is a multi-model creative studio and developer platform for generating and editing video, images, character performances, avatars, voice, music, and sound. It is no longer accurately described as only the early Character-1 talking-character tool. The current catalog combines Hedra's own Character 3, Avatar, and Omnia models with multiple third-party model families in one credit system.
This guide was updated on September 9, 2026 from Hedra's current model catalog, product pages, API documentation, terms, and privacy policy. Toolsfine did not run a controlled cross-model benchmark, upload personal media, buy credits, or verify every catalog entry. Model availability, costs, limits, and rights can change quickly.
What Hedra does now
| Area | Typical input and output | What to compare |
|---|---|---|
| Character and avatar video | A character image plus audio, script, or performance direction becomes a speaking or singing video | Identity consistency, lip sync, gesture, duration, language, speaker handling, and consent |
| General video generation | Text, first frame, last frame, or reference images become short cinematic clips; some models support native audio | Model-specific duration, resolution, audio, camera control, reference fidelity, and cost per second |
| Image generation and editing | Prompts and references produce or modify still images | Text rendering, character consistency, resolution, edit precision, provenance, and cost per generation |
| Audio | Text or briefs become speech, music, or effects through available providers | Voice consent, language, pronunciation, licensing, provider terms, and cost unit |
| Agent workflow | A creative brief is decomposed into steps and models inside the studio | Plan transparency, model choice, approval points, regeneration cost, brand constraints, and reproducibility |
| API | Developers call supported models through a unified interface | Exact model ID, schema, price details, latency, rate limits, error handling, retention, and vendor dependency |
How to choose a Hedra workflow
- Talking presenter or character: start with Hedra's character or avatar paths and test the exact language, voice, face, and target duration.
- Cinematic scene: compare two supported video models on the same prompt and reference rather than selecting by a showcase reel.
- Product or social creative: begin from authorized brand assets, then verify text, logos, product geometry, platform dimensions, and disclosure requirements.
- Automation or volume: use the API only after a small studio test establishes acceptable output, cost, failure handling, and rights for the chosen model.
A repeatable evaluation
- Define one real deliverable, target channel, duration, resolution, language, deadline, and rights requirement.
- Use the same prompt, source assets, aspect ratio, and duration with two relevant models.
- Record the model version, settings, credits or per-unit price, queue time, generation time, failures, and regeneration count.
- Inspect faces, hands, object permanence, motion, text, logos, lip sync, audio, cuts, and reference consistency at full resolution.
- Measure correction time and total cost per usable export, not only the price of the successful generation.
- Archive the prompt, model ID, source permissions, exported file, and applicable terms for important work.
Pricing and commercial use
Hedra uses shared credits across models, but each model can have a different cost per generation, second, or character unit. The current video product page advertises a free trial path and paid individual, team, enterprise, and developer options. It also states that free outputs may be watermarked and non-commercial while paid plans include commercial use. Confirm the live plan, selected model, credit rate, watermark, renewal, cancellation, and usage rights immediately before production.
Rights, privacy, and safety
Hedra's terms say users retain ownership of their input and output as between the user and Hedra, subject to a broad license used to operate and provide the service and to applicable settings and third-party AI-service terms. That does not guarantee that an input was authorized, an output is unique, or every model grants identical commercial rights.
Use only faces, voices, music, characters, products, and brand assets you are authorized to use. Do not upload identity documents, confidential footage, private recordings, minors, or unreleased client work until collection, retention, deletion, training, human review, location, and subprocessors are acceptable. Review the current privacy policy and the exact third-party model terms.
Generated media can misrepresent real people and events. Obtain informed consent for digital replicas, avoid impersonation and fraud, check platform synthetic-media rules, and add clear disclosure when an audience could mistake the result for authentic documentation.
Verdict
Hedra is best evaluated as a unified creative workspace and API, not a single video model. It can reduce switching between character, video, image, and audio providers, but a shared interface does not make the underlying models equivalent. Choose by deliverable, test the exact model, calculate the full cost of usable output, and verify rights and data terms before client, advertising, or identity-sensitive work.
