Introduce of Homie
Homie helps your team overcome timezone struggles, context switching, stale project boards, knowledge silos, and many more issues that can slow down team software development.
Out the box, with zero config, Homie can:
– act as a search engine for your project & code
– create tasks in Slack
– generate good PR summaries in GitHub/Gitlab
– Provide code help, by explaining PRs, and bug fixes
– write changelogs, and documentation
– notify of potential duplicate tasks
– Send weekly progress summaries for PRs, and contributors
Everything to help speed up software development.
Features and Benefits of Homie
What exactly does Homie do?
Listing out everything Homie can do will be too long for a single answer. We’re working hard to document everything in the feature, and doc pages. In the meantime, here are the major features: act as a search engine for your project & code, create tasks in Slack, generate good PR summaries in GitHub/Gitlab, explain PRs, and bug fixes, write changelogs, notify of potential duplicate tasks, send summaries of PRs, and contributors.
We have existing tools, and processes. Why do we even need this?
Short answer is because it can’t hurt. Homie was built to be opt-in at every step, and not get in the way of how a team might work. Worst-case is your team won’t need most of the features, but at a fraction of an engineer’s monthly pay, we think the peace of mind of tracking everything is worth the sub fee.
Won’t Al make stuff up?
This is a common concern, and a valid one! LLMs, being statistical in nature, are inevitably going to produce inconsistent answers, which is why the majority of Homie’s features are hard-coded function calls. The Al is just a chat interface.
You want us to trust you with our code, and project?
I get it, this is a huge ask. My name is Mike, and I’m the creator of Homie. I’m a dad of 3, and freelance dev from Australia, living Japan. I created Homie to help with my own client projects. I’m currently using it myself across 3+ projects, helping over 20 engineers. I’ll continue to maintain it, and add features even if I was the only user. If you want to just have a chat, feel free to email me at [email protected]
We’re devs, can’t we build this ourselves?
You absolutely can, and it’ll probably be a lot of fun too. Homie is a combination from a whole bunch of organization tooling I’ve picked up over the years. Unfortunately, l’ve also seen that as the product usually takes priority, internal tools fail to get maintained. Sometimes, they get abandoned altogether when the original author leaves the company.
Using an external service, like Homie, avoids all that, so your team can focus on the product.
